Torchlight Story Circle
Lights off, one torch, and a story passed around the circle.
The best possible end to a sleepover, and it calms everyone down rather than winding them up.
What you need
- a torch
How to do it
- Everyone lies in a circle with the lights off.
- Whoever holds the torch is telling the story.
- Start it yourself with one sentence, then pass the torch.
- Each person adds two or three sentences, no more.
- Whoever gets it last must end the story properly.
Why this is good for them
The torch makes turn-taking physical and obvious, which prevents the loudest child dominating. Ending a story on demand is much harder than continuing one, and it is a genuinely useful narrative skill.
Adapting by age
