Nature Treasure Bag

What you need
- a paper or cloth bag
How to do it
- Give each child a bag before you leave the house.
- Agree a short list: something rough, something smooth, something smaller than your thumb.
- Walk your normal route, no further.
- At home, tip everything out and sort it by texture, colour or size.
- Choose the best three and put them on a windowsill.
Why this is good for them
Searching for a specific quality rather than just collecting turns a walk into focused observation. Sorting afterwards is early classification, which underpins both science and mathematics.
